About Our Strategy
Our Strategy for Building
Reading Proficiency
One Minute Reader, developed by Read Naturally, uses the evidence-
based Read Naturally Strategy. This strategy is aligned with the Science of
Reading and has helped millions of struggling readers around the world
since 1991. The Read Naturally Strategy combines the research-proven
reading intervention strategies of teacher modeling, repeated reading, and
progress monitoring to individualize instruction and improve reading
proficiency. Using audio support and tracking their progress, kids work
with high-interest material at their skill level to improve fluency,
vocabulary, and comprehension.
Teacher Modeling
A proficient reader models correct reading for a developing reader. Teacher modeling helps kids learn new words and master others
as well as learn proper pronunciation, expression, and phrasing.
In One Minute Reader, kids read along while
listening to a carefully-paced recording of a
fluent reader.
Repeated Reading
Kids read the story multiple times. Repeated reading helps kids master difficult words, increase accuracy, and improve expression to
become fluent readers. Reading a story repeatedly also increases comprehension and builds confidence.
In One Minute Reader, kids read a high-
interest, nonfiction story until able to read it
accurately and with expression.
Progress Monitoring
Kids use graphs to track their performance. Progress monitoring involves kids in the learning process, motivates kids to improve, and
increases reading achievement.
In One Minute Reader, kids monitor reading
progress through graphs and charts showing
fluency and comprehension performance on
each story.
